About the Role

Supportive Bridge Staffing Agency is partnering with University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust to recruit a dedicated Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our acute oncology team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

As part of one of the largest acute SLT teams in the country (with over 45 members), you will provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for patients undergoing oncology and radiotherapy treatment. Working alongside a highly specialist multidisciplinary team, you will manage a diverse clinical caseload across pre-, on-, and post-treatment pathways, with access to advanced instrumental assessments including FEES and videofluoroscopy, robust supervision, and continuous professional development.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Care Delivery: Assess, manage, and treat adult patients presenting with swallowing (dysphagia) and communication difficulties relating to oncology and radiotherapy pathways.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with SLT team leaders, peers, NQPs, and wider MDT colleagues to deliver a seamless, high standard of patient care.
Specialist Development: Work toward utilizing advanced instrumental assessments (such as FEES, SVR, and videofluoroscopy) and participate in departmental service development, audits, and clinical governance.
Training & Supervision: Support the training and mentoring of junior colleagues, students, and healthcare support workers within a fast-paced acute environment.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential)

Professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy (Degree level or equivalent).
Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
Completed RCSLT Level C / EDS Level 5 dysphagia competencies (or above) and RCSLT NQP competencies.
Evidence of relevant postgraduate training and ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Experience (Essential)

Demonstrable post-qualification experience working within an adult inpatient setting and managing an independent adult dysphagia caseload.
Experience working successfully within a multi-professional team.
Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of communication and swallowing disorders, acute/long-term progressive conditions, and related management techniques.
