About the Role

Supportive Bridge Staffing Agency is partnering with University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust to recruit enthusiastic and visionary Consultants in Emergency Medicine to join the Emergency Departments at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and Good Hope Hospital.

In this senior clinical leadership position, you will work alongside a robust multidisciplinary team—including emergency practitioners, ACPs, doctors in training, nursing staff, and flow coordinators—to deliver first-class emergency care. With major capital developments underway, including new Urgent Treatment Centres and a state-of-the-art Emergency Village design at Heartlands, this post offers exceptional opportunities for strategic involvement, service development, educational supervision, and personal subspecialty development.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Patient Care: Provide expert clinical leadership in a busy emergency environment, managing acute presentations and driving safe, effective, patient-centred care.
Specialty Champion: Champion and advance Emergency Medicine within the Trust through active engagement in service redesign, strategy, and emergency pathway enhancements.
Governance & Education: Lead and participate in teaching, research, clinical audit, governance programmes, and educational supervision (1.5–2.5 SPAs typically included in the personalised job plan).
Multidisciplinary Leadership: Provide mentorship, supervision, and clinical direction to junior doctors, ACPs, trainees, and wider department staff.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Registrations (Essential)

Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
FRCEM or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Emergency Medicine, or within 6 months of entry at the time of interview (via CCT or CESR).
ALS / ATLS / APLS (or equivalent) provider status.
