About the Role

Supportive Bridge Staffing Agency is partnering with University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust to recruit an experienced Band 7 Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to cover maternity leave within our specialist Head and Neck Cancer team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB).

As part of a large, close-knit, and highly skilled multidisciplinary service, you will support head and neck cancer patients through every stage of their pathway—from diagnosis and treatment to acute inpatient management, rehabilitation, and outpatient follow-up. Key Duties & Responsibilities

Specialist Assessment & Management: Provide highly specialist SLT assessment, management, and rehabilitation for patients with swallowing (dysphagia), voice, and communication difficulties, as well as altered airways (e.g., laryngectomy, tracheostomy, surgical voice restoration).
Pathway Delivery: Cover inpatient and outpatient settings across pre- and post-head and neck cancer surgery, oncology treatments, and specialist voice clinics.
Supervision & Education: Contribute to the training, supervision, and mentorship of junior colleagues, students, and multidisciplinary team members.
Service Development & Research: Engage actively in departmental audit, research initiatives, and service improvements, with opportunities to attend or present at regional and national conferences.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential)

Good standard of secondary education including A-Level or equivalent.
BSc or recognised MSc degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Completed RCSLT Level C dysphagia competencies / Level 5 EDS competencies (or above).

Experience (Essential)

Significant post-graduate experience working independently with an adult dysphagia caseload at a specialist level.
Extensive experience working within a head and neck cancer/oncology clinical setting and an acute hospital environment.
Demonstrable experience of multidisciplinary team working, student/junior staff training, and individual or team-level people management.
