About the Role

Supportive Bridge Staffing Agency is partnering with University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust to recruit experienced Neonatal Nurses for permanent Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse roles.

UHB provides neonatal care to over 10,000 babies regionally. This role spans across our busy Level 3 unit at Heartlands Hospital (comprising 32 cots, a Transitional Care unit, and Neonatal Community Outreach) and the Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit at Good Hope Hospital (12 cots). You will join an established, diverse team delivering safe, high-quality family integrated care, taking charge of clinical shifts, coordinating patient flow, and supporting staff development.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Shift Coordination: Take charge of clinical shifts, allocate staff according to skill mix and safety, and act as a visible role model for junior team members.
Deputising & Governance: Deputise for the Senior Sister, assisting with department leadership, clinical standards, incident/complaint learning, and supporting safe discharges.
Family Integrated Care: Promote and deliver consistent high standards of nursing practice focused on family-centred care and effective communication with multidisciplinary teams and families.
Professional Development: Support the education, training, and mentoring of undergraduate students and junior staff, acting as a practice-based supervisor/assessor.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Registration (Essential)

Registered Child Branch Nurse, Adult Nurse, or Midwife on the NMC register with current UK professional registration.
Recognized post-registration qualification in specialty (Neonatal Critical Care / Intensive Care).

Experience (Essential)

Substantial post-registration experience working within a neonatal critical care environment delivering family integrated care and mentoring staff.
Proven experience leading or coordinating a shift or department area, with a solid CPD portfolio demonstrating professional development and clinical knowledge.
