About the Role

Supportive Bridge Staffing Agency is partnering with University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust to recruit a dynamic and experienced Band 8b Estates Manager to lead the operational estates function across the Good Hope Hospital site.

This is a pivotal leadership position within one of the largest NHS trusts in England, where your expertise will directly ensure the safety, compliance, and efficiency of our healthcare estate. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, oversee complex statutory compliance (including asbestos and water safety), manage robust budgets, and drive continuous improvement across mechanical, electrical, and building services.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Operational Leadership: Direct and manage day-to-day operational estates functions across the Good Hope site, encompassing mechanical, electrical, and building services.
Statutory Compliance & Safety: Accountable for health and safety compliance, acting as the site lead for asbestos and deputy responsible person for water safety.
Financial & Contract Management: Oversee budgets, procurement, financial reporting, tendering, and resource allocation to achieve value for money and meet financial targets.
Staff Development & Engagement: Line manage Estates Officers, supporting their professional growth through performance reviews (PDRs), training, and robust team leadership.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential)

Educated to Degree level or equivalent in an appropriate discipline (such as mechanical/electrical engineering or building), supplemented by specialist knowledge acquired through postgraduate courses.
(Desirable: Recognised CPD, formal management training, or master’s level education).

Experience (Essential)

Substantial experience managing estate services within a major acute healthcare trust.
Proven background in contract and project management, resource/asset management, and financial control across multi-stranded services.
In-depth, up-to-date knowledge of health and safety legislation, statutory regulations, asbestos management, and water safety.
Strong leadership experience in developing staff, shaping policies, and communicating complex technical and financial information to diverse stakeholders.
