About the Role

Are you an experienced tax professional looking to develop your career with a Fair Tax Mark accredited business? Supportive Bridge Staffing Agency is proud to partner to recruit an ambitious Indirect Tax Manager to join the in-house tax team based in Manchester.

In this vital hybrid role, you will play a key part in the development of Co-op’s indirect tax reporting and compliance function. Working closely with partners across the business, you will ensure compliance with all VAT and Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) requirements, manage HMRC relationships, and assist on corporate development and optimization projects.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Reporting: Prepare, review, and submit accurate and timely VAT and Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) returns in line with legislative and internal standards.
Tax Optimization & Claims: Identify, prepare, and support indirect tax claims and opportunities to optimize Co-op's tax position.
HMRC & Audit Management: Manage HMRC enquiries, audits, and information requests, alongside tax-related queries from external auditors.
Advisory & Support: Provide proactive indirect tax advice and technical support to colleagues, ensuring tax considerations are integrated into commercial and operational decisions.
Process Improvement & Leadership: Identify efficiencies in compliance and reporting processes, manage internal tax controls, and coach/mentor junior staff.

What We Are Looking For

To thrive in this role, you will need to bring:

Professional Qualifications: A CTA, ACA, or equivalent qualification with significant indirect tax experience (including VAT and Plastic Packaging Tax).
Technical Expertise: A strong understanding of complex VAT matters (such as partial exemption, property, and retail) and tax risk management/governance.
Analytical Skills: The ability to extract, analyze, and interpret data, apply correct tax treatments, and utilize advanced Excel and ERP systems (such as SAP).
Communication & People Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships across the business, manage competing priorities, and guide others.
